Temp gage needle pegged - engine damage ? 700

You can do some initial checks to see if there was damage.

Look at the coolant level and the color of it. Is is low and dark?
Check the oil. Is it foamy or smells burnt?

If the answer is yes to any of the above then the head gasket is shot and the head may be warped. It would be a head job w/ decking by a machine shop.

If the answer is no then have a mechanic do a compression check to check the valves and pistons/rings.

You still need to determine what caused the engine to overheat.
