Tear in Circlip behind Front Cam Seal? 200 1990

1990 245 w/ 250k

I popped the front cam seal out (it was leaking) and had a look inside. It looks like there is some sort of circlip behind the seal. Mine has a big chunk taken out of it (check the picture):

I just now remember that when I changed the timing belt/front seals about a year ago, this chunk was missing. I must have been in a hurry and chosen to repress the memory. Ignorance by choice is bliss? The car has been running ok this past year.

I also changed the flame trap and cleaned the vac line/nipple that screws into the intake manifold, in case those were the culprits for the leaking cam seal.

Any ideas or reccommendations?

Thanks for your help,

Ian
