A/C Repair Question 200 1986

Hi guys,
I'm trying to get the A/C going on my 86 240 but have ran into a problem.
The mechanic that is doing the work said I need the following items:
evaporator
expansion valve
heat sensor tube.
The parts supplier he uses does not offer these items so he wanted me to try to find them online.
My problem is that I can't find anything that's called a heat sensor tube at either Groton or IPD.
My mechanic described it as operating like a thermocouple on a water heater.
Do any of you have any idea what he is talking about?
