940 Gear Shift Knob & Compatibility 900

'93 944T. Instead of living with just a cracked gear shift knob, now all the rubber just crumbled off in short order. Now I have a really awful looking shifter with the plastic core exposed. I'm not going to live with this, so my question is, can I upgrade with a 960/S90/V90 knob with the wood handle or do I have to stay with these crummy rubber ones for the 940s? Regardless of the answer, anyone have a good source to get one of these at a discount? Thanks. -Scott in STL
