Lock Washers 444-544

Man am I confused now! even more than usual. I just did a Google search on "when to use lock washers" I was amazed at the diametrically opposed views on these things. All I wanted to know basically was when to use one and when to use one with a flat washer. There are people who say the best place to store them is in the trash and others that swear you absolutely need to use them. A lot of the folks I read about throw the old ones away when it comes time to rebuild something.

So what's the deal?
