Temp gauge problems 120-130

I'm reconditioning a '65 122S. Solved a lot of issues on my own, but temp gauge reads "hot". All electrical seems to be ok, only missing back-up lights and domelight. Everything else is solid. Repalced thermostat and water pump, flushed out radiator, new anti-freeze. The only thing I haven't check was the rad cap, don't have a cap pressure tool. Can it be just that or is there some thing can be done with the temp sending unit. I have not seen a replacement for it throughout all the sites I frequent. If anyone has a take on this, would like to hear from you.
Thanks
