Alternator wiring/244 '86 200

Alternator is not charging and the idiot lights are on...battery, brake, parking brake. Out of the harness, there is the fat red (hot) wire that I connected to B+, there is a small wire that likely at one time was wrapped but is now bare and frayed bare that I do not know if it goes with the fat red to the B+ or is a ground. Also there is a rather frayed wire that appears to have connected to the engine block...a sensor (?). The other fatter wire, separate from the others I have attached to the D+ terminal. Although the wiring diagram shows it as red, it is actually blue. I assume this is the wire that goes to the dash...idiot lights? Any help?
