My mechanic tells me $110 to fix ac system? 200

I have a 1990 240 with ac. The ac does not work. If the compressor still works and there are no leaks he says he can do it for $110. Does that seem reasonable? And just what is he doing? Is he just filling the system with a compatible newer gas like freeze 12? I assume he is doing no seal changes, just putting in new oil and some kind of freeze 12. Will it work? And how cold do you think it will get. I can put up with waiting a bit. I only need ac maybe 5-10 a year, although on those days I can just wait for evening or the window down works fine as long as the car is moving, for the $110 price I am thinking about doing it. Any thoughts?
