Bernard,

While I can agree with most of what you are saying, I don't agree that buffing and waxing ruins a patina.

I think a good patina will still show through the buffing and waxing, while oxidation just looks like neglect. In fact, to me, patina can include a car that was waxed every month since new, and now shows some polished primer where the paint is wearing thin from all of the waxing.

I don't think rust holes qualify as patina, but an honest repair with an approximation of matching the paint, leaving most of the paint original, still qualifies as patina to me.

However, I realize this is completely subjective.
