Intermittent random no starts and dieing 200

I have a 1989 240dl. Over that past 3 months I have had 3 times where the car will not start or will die. 1st was in a parking lot it would turn over fine but would not start, checked all the normal suspects. Came back the next day worked fine. 2nd in the driveway would not start again. Came back the next day and played around with the fuel pump fuse and she started. 3rd time just last week I'm driving along fine and the car dies. Will not restart. Have it towed home next day starts fine no problems. I took the crank position sensor out (1 year old) and noticed the end of it had some dirt and build up and cleaned that. So now I'm nervous to drive the car I never know when it will for no reason not run or stop running. Please advise what to do. Thanks.
