Driveshaft re-install problem 900 1993

I replaced the driveshaft support bearing and I'm having a problem re-installing the rear section of the driveshaft. I notice that there's a double-wide spline space on the female (front) section but I cannot find a corresponding double-wide spline on the rear section. Also, I'm unable to slide the rear section into the front section in any position. I can get it started, but it will not slide the rest of the way in. I didn't ding the splines while it was disassembled and I don't find any obstructions inside the front shaft. Any ideas on what could be stopping the re-assembly? Thanks.
Marlin
