Yes I am still alive and so is Kristine ('62 122S white, 2nd owner). A few years ago I torched the starter motor. A place in Gardena, CA had rebuilt my spare a few years ago so I stuffed it in. Geting the spare was fun as I found out there ae two body styles long and short - my original is the long style. When I took back the original motor they held it for a week (Rotex is the name off of Western Ave near Rosecrans) and then gave it back saying sorry dude you fried the stator/field coils burnt the paper right off - hey that is why it was smoking!. They then gave me a wireing diagram and said re-wire your current starter with this mod and use the relay - it will help in stopping what you did to your starter. Nice coulda, used that....
I popped onto the forum and Ron K offered me one of his spares but he couldn't do anything at the moment due to something about buckets of snow. Well in the meantime I bought a fixer upper house, had a few kids... wife bought me a POST (Piece Of Sxxt Truck) as the Kristine is original and does not have belts nor do I care to put them in. And so she had been relegated to the garage with intermittant starts and 20 mile runs to keep things moving. In the meantime I still have an original glass bowl fuel pump that needs a rebuild kit and then there is that starter motor. I have a spare glass bowl installed but some year that is going to go southe and then I will have to install the other options,. Oh joy look the new replacements for the bowls use hose clamps where the orriginal use threaded hoses. gee looks like I should get in touch with IPD and say hey the fuel pump you gave me can't hook up to my vehicile. - got some hoses?
Getting back to the tale. There is another electrical motor rewind shop close to the first place but they close early for me. I finally got over to them they looked at my box fo parts and said sorry we wont be able to help you today but there is a place that may work. "Have you tried Rotex?" yeah 3 years ago... So JJ said you know there is another place that specializes like us let me give you their card. I think I may have found a place that rewinds "Field Coils" The name is Eurton, also in LA county. I will give them a ring in a week or so and let you all know what gives.
