Bumper Trim Molding 200 1989

Is there a trick that anyone knows about installing the rear bumper trim molding.
It came off the clips and now it's impossible to install back on.
It is better to put the clips on the molding first and then try to press them
into the holes in the rear above the bumper?
Thanks for any insights.
