Cool Temperature Gauge Find at Junkyard - need a bit of help though 200

Hey guys,

Yesterday I found this temperature gauge on an '86 240 turbo wagon in the junkyard. It must be for outside temperature, because it goes from -25 °C to 40°C, and it an analog gauge made by VDO. The diameter of the body is 2-1/8" I think, it's a standard size apparently. The car appeared to have a full complement of gauges. Anyway, I bought the gauge and tried to find where the sensor is for the outside temperature but couldn't find it. There is a red/blue wire cominf off the gauge, which must be for the sensor. I'll put up a picture of the gauge later on, I'm at the office right now.

Anyway, I want to adapt this thing into my 740 somehow, maybe with one of those A-pillare pods.

The problem is I need the sender/sensor too, to make it work. Does anyone have any insight into where that may be located on that model of car? I'll go back next weekend and see if I can find it.

Thanks.
