544 Control arm cracking 444-544

Both mine were cracked when I looked. I'm pretty sure that with enough use they all crack. One the PV's endemic problems.

On mine I just wirewheeled it clean and migged over the cracks. Should be almost as good as new. I'd imagine they could go for a long time cracked before it would actually go all the way and eject the spring down onto the road underneath.

Once again, I'd urge anyone with a PV to check this. It's easy to fix if you catch it when it's still a crack and not an outright tear.

PS: Investigating a new CLUNK from my front end, I found the left side sway bar bracket ripped away from the frame. I've reinforced and patched the other 3 (IPD sways front and rear) over the years, this was the last remaining 'stock' sway bar attachment. Can't blame the car, it's rust. *SIGH*
