Can't Thank You Enough 700 1991

I have been driving old Volvos for about 10 years but have only recently discovered Brickboard.com. I wanted to post and say thanks for such a great resource. I have also made a modest donation to help support the site.

I have a 1991 740 with 196k miles on it. The speedometer is broken so I took it to my mechanic last week to have it fixed. He called me to tell me the part (the instrument cluster) would cost about $750 to order new. I told him never mind. A friend recommended I try doing it myself and pointed me to Brickboard. I found very detailed posts explaining how to pull the cluster, how to diagnose the problem, etc. Today I drove over to the salvage lot and found an identical cluster on a 940 turbo. It took me about 5 minutes to pull the cluster from the 940 and about another 5 minutes to pop it into my 740. Total cost $15.

So thanks again. The Brickboard community saved me about $800 (new cluster + labor). I really appreciate it.

Scott
