AC Compressor/clutch... 200 1993

Yes, there is a dedicated ground wire, if I recall correctly, it runs from the driver side rear lowest most corner of the compressor to the block. If that wire is broken the clutch will not engage.

For a resistance check of the coil, hook one lead of the Ohm meter/multimeter to the green wire, and the other to the body of the compressor. If the meter reads "open", the clutch coil is open and needs replaced. If it reads around 10 Ohms (bad memory on this one), the coil and probably the clutch is good.

About a year ago, jnuttall had a failed SHORT clutch coil on his compressor. He was able to replace it without cracking the refrigerant system open. Try searching on his posts for the answer of how to swap the clutch.

As far as working on the compressor from the top or the bottom, the answer is yes.
