Turbo alternator fitment, unique? 200 1984

Having problem with new alternator belts.
Old belts were too loose, could not get alternator to adjust far enough to tighten belts. Belts on car were 10x950mm.
Ordered 10x925s from FCP. They will not go on as alternator hits oil pressure sensor and will not pull in enough to allow belts on ( I actually did get them on by removing the water pump pulley and then putting it on, but the alternator is resting against the oil pressure sensor). I'm afraid something will eventually break.
I'm assuming the alternator has been replaced, and some one used the longer belts, but with stretch, they no longer are tight enough.
Is the alternator case smaller on turbos? Perhaps only a 55A instead of a 70A?
FCP site lists both sizes for Turbos.
