Speedo/Odometer/Dash Lights out 200 1984

Hi,
So basically, my speedo, odometer, and dash lights are out in my 240. They have been now for over 3 years, and I believe that it is due to the dash being electrically fried by the previous owner installing a dash clock (he told me so, so I took his word). The RPM's work, the fuel gauge works, the engine temp gauge works, so the car is completely drivable. My question is really if anyone has heard of a similar problem, and if so, what it really is, and how much of a big deal is it for me to fix it. I really haven't done any research into this personally, but today I suppose I found myself curious to learn more. I still assume this to be an electrical fault, and if it is I would be curious on if it would be possible for me to work on it without bringing it to a mechanic.

Thanks,
Trevor
