Volvo's instructions are to install downstream of the radiator .... 200

re: "...I considered putting mine downstream from the tranny, but ended up going with downstream of the radiator, (cooled before it goes back in the tranny). I had a concern about over-cooling the trans. fluid in cool weather...."

Volvo engineers agree with your end-result.

I have a Volvo auxiliary ATF cooler in all three of my 240s. The screw-on fittings (no clamps) and hoses are included, including the diverter, in the kit.

But to the point: the installation instructions leave no doubt that this cooler takes the fluid *after* it has left the radiator, and from the cooler the fluid returns directly to the transmission.

So I guess that's where Volvo wants it installed.
