Whistle n'Clunk 200

Hi there. I've got an '86 245 that's unfortunately not getting the attention it deserves thanks to a new 122 project. I'm pretty new to the home mechanic scene but am incredibly willing and eager. I can usually find my answers just by browsing and searching older posts but I haven't really found a suitable answer to a couple issues.

1. I hear a high pitch whistle/whine (just barely audible) that goes through every gear and is directly related to acceleration. I popped the hood to try and track it down, but I couldn't hear it w/ the hood open. Where should I look? From the drivers seat it sounds as though its coming from the right side of the center console.

2. Every once in awhile, when starting from a stop I hear a single clunk that sounds a though its coming from the rear end. Happens when backing up and taking off. No real pattern and it doesn't happen all the time. I've put the car up on stands, but I really am not totally sure where I should be looking.

Those are my issues... apologies if these have been covered before... a point in the right direction would be great.
