Aiming headlights, '86-'93 200 1986

I installed new OEM headlight assemblies and backing panels, plus corner light assemblies. New bulbs. Everything. These are the Cibie thingies. Not sure of the correct terminology for the backing panels -- on other cars they're called header panels, the mounting for the headlight assemblies.

The problem is how to aim them. I've been to the Daniel Stern site. Lots of information -- if I had e-codes or quads I'm sure it would help a lot. I've read other sites.

The problem with these large rectangular lenses is I can't seem to get a definable or distinctive pattern. I've done the 25' thing, measuring everything, covering one light at a time, etc. It's a blob on the wall. I can move the lenses back and forth, up and down, no problem. But where to set it?

Do dealers have an aiming device? Should I move closer, like 10' to try and get a distinctive pattern? Or is there no good way to aim these things?

Thanks.
