What may cause lack of power? 200 1988

For the past 6 years I owned two Volvos; a 1985 245, and a 1988 244, both stick shift. The '85 wagon, with 285K miles, always felt peppy; the '88 car, with less than 200K miles, does not seem to have that same power. Oh, it eventually gathers speed to keep up with traffic, but there is definitely something that is different. Since I have the same engine, similar trans ratios, same ratio rear (3.31), what could be the causes for that lack of power in the car, and what can be done to fix it?
