Finally had the no start situation resolved.
Symptoms- Key in II position lights on dash ON- turn key to III to start
NO start no noise no nothing-
Power radio,lights etc. turn on fine no dimming -check ok
Had it towed to mechanic
starter and solenoid checked ok- test by removing small wire from starter and connecting 12v light between wire and starter connection- turn key to start
If light comes on -then starter solenoid is bad- replace starter

Light did not come on- problem upstream from starter

this takes us to the shifter assembly-
tested safety neutral switch-removed plastic drive cover
moved to neutral position turned key to start- while moving and jiggling shifter lever.-no response to start

Found shift assembly was loose- all the bolts (bolted from the underside) came unbolted- apparently the shifter assembly needed to be grounded.

Bolts inserted and tightened-PROBLEM SOLVED!!!!!
Hope this helps anybody with the same no start problem.
