What is the best tool any of you have found to remove the Square Recessed Headed Access plug from the bottom of the tank without stripping the inside of the recessed square plug ?
I need to get at the sock and look at it and the pick up tube,
The car is sputtering out on and off after driving for around 10 minutes. It cuts off then coasts and then the engine continues to run. I take my foot off the gas and then let is coast and it starts running again.
I just replaced the fuel pump yesterday with one from Don Thibeault down at the Cape.
So, I am thinking the sock is clogged from sucking shit up from the gas tank and restricting fuel delivery based on the suction from the pump after it runs for a short time. The pump overheats after a while and gets worse and because the pump is not being cooled by the fuel flow through the pump.
The FPR does not smell like gas at all. So, the sock and pickup tube seem like the most logical place to go next since the relay DOES clicks on and off, even after the pump shuts down from high temp ? And I would think the relay would either work or not work, since I would hear a rapid clicking if the relay were chattering and not supplying the 12 Volts to the fuel Pump. It would be noticeable.
So, what tool is used to get at the sock and pickup via the under tank access without stripping the thing to pieces ?
Thanks,
CJ
