oil leak, valve cover gasket? 200 1984

Hi all,

Today when I arrived at work I noticed a funny smell when I got out of my
car so I popped the hood and discovered quite a lot of oil spattered about the engine compartment. I scoured the boards and symptoms are pointing to the valve cover gasket or a seal. I checked the flame trap and it seems o.k. and there doesn't seem to be excessive pressure (jiggle test, it's a metal cap).
There seemed to be quite a bit of oil loss but when I checked the level it was o.k. I managed to drive home o.k., stopping to check a couple times. Upon inspection I definitely see oil leaking from the valve cover gasket close to where it meets the timing belt cover. I'm able to slip a guitar pick between the surfaces just forward of the rounded of part of the valve cover.
Am I correct to assume this is a valve cover gasket issue.
Anything else I should be looking for.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks, Kirk
