Stranger than fiction,... 120-130

Hey all, first post in a while.
How's this for Twilight Zone stuff? I went to my backyard stack of "Maypops" for tires and wheels to put on a rolling carcass* that's going bye-bye. At the bottom of the pile is a rusty old rim (standard Amazon 5 lug wheel, 165R15 tire), but get this;
The TIRE is something called a Pneumant, and bears the inscription MADE IN THE GERMAN DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC!!!! I mean, for all you historically challenged,
that's the ol' DDR, the former EAST f*&^ing Germany!! The guys on the wrong side of the Berlin Wall and Checkpoint Charlie!!
Aside from the fact that I have a tire hanging around that's demonstrably more than 20+ years old, but how in the Sam Hill did it get over here to SoCal? I know that Sweden is a nominally Socialist country, but Volvos running on East German tires? Seems far-fetched. Do those 2 stroke Trabants have 15 inch wheels? Maybe someone sold me a Volvo that used to live in Cuba? Maybe it was on one of those refugee rafts from there? I bought and scrapped a lot of parts cars a while back. I'm open to opinions and theories here,
Thanx, R.
