240 Wagon 200

So a few days ago I scored an all metal heavy duty Nissens radiator off a 740 at the local P&P. So far my overheating in traffic issues seem to be over :-D. Among my treasures I also picked up a tack off an '87 240. As far as what I've read I should be able to just remove the clock plug in the tac, hook up the tac signal wire and be enlightened to my engines speed. I did all this but the moment I switch on the ignition it pegs all the way yo 7k and does not come back down, not even when the car is started. Any ideas?
