Shaky, vibrating, clunking, popping, generally sucking! 120-130

Howdy all.
The other day I drove my 122 about 60 mile round trip (nothing new) and all was well, drove like a dream. The only hic up was that when I first took off from a stop. there was a sort of grinding/pop/clunk from the rear. but once going, all was good.
Then the next day, there was a noticable vibration above 30-35 mph.
The next day, more vibration,
till this morn.
This morning, there was a ton of vibration, to the point of sounding like something big and metal was hitting the body. The clunking when I take off was major.
The weird thing is that it only did it while accelerating. When I coasted, all was good in the world, I really couldn't drive over 30 mph, and acceleration was slow ( I had to drive it to get home from work.

I looked under the car today to check the u-joints, they seemed good, all else looked good also. the only thing that didn't look right was the support that holds the axle by the middle u-joint. The grommets are completely worn and gone, the drive shaft will freely move up and down. and ite support seems about 2 inches away from the plate that the grommets are in.
two questions:
1) does that seem like the likely culprit?

2) How do i fix this?

Thanks in advance, you guys are always awesome.

Thanks
Kent
