Loud grinding noise when wipers turned on 200

When I turn on the windshield wipers there is a really loud grinding noise. The wipers work but I'm afraid if I try to use them they will break even worse. The wiper motor seems to work fine when removed from the car. The pass side wiper looks to be moving when the wipers are running. What would cause this noise? I want to fix it before the rain starts! Bob
