Rope trick disaster 200 1992

I'm in a tight spot and so is my '92 244. Wrapping up the timing belt replacement (and tensioner). My rope is stuck in #1 cylinder! Moved crank CCW 1/4 turn before TDC and stuffed in rope before torqueing the center bolt. Applied the 44ft-lbs and attempted an additonal 1/6 turn (60 degrees). Returned crank CCW to its initial position used to install the rope. Couldn't get rope out. Move crank CW to about 45 degrees after TDC to see if it would work itself loose. No go! This is not looking good for the rope trick (or is it me?). I'm not fascinated with the idea of tearing apart the engine to untangle and retrieve the rope.

Any ideas to follow would be helpful. Avoiding suggestions to go to FAQ on steps to remove head.

Mike
