Ignition- starts while running 900 1994

Hi I need assitance with a strange problem that just occurred. Car is a '94 940 sedan non-turbo with 225k. While siiting in the driveway ideling (no one in car), the starter engaged itself and continued engaged until I rushed over and shut it off. Faint smell of burnt wires in the interior afterwards. Went to restart the car and now find that just turning the ignition switch to position 1 engages the starter and starts the car (Starter stays engaged so I have to shut it right down). Absolutely no symtoms before this occurence.
Other factors: It was raining heavily when this happened and I had recently just driven the car in the rain and through some medium sized puddles.
Any Ideas? Just wet wires at the starter? Bad Ignition barrel? I read there is a switch behind the barrel that can go bad, but did not see a write-up on how to replace. Any help greatly appreciated.
