1987 245dl with 320k miles and m47... while driving home yesterday i was temporarily stranded and completely surprised when my gas pedal broke. I had pressed it and rather than moving normally it slipped sideways and detached from the firewall! I was luckily able to pull over safely and check it out. It had literally broken off at the hinge point and was just dangling there by the throttle cable. It appears the bolt or whatever holds the pedal to the hinge point at the firewall had just sheared off. I was able to jimmyrig it back in place with some wire and duct tape well enough to get me home, but this made for a rather nervous drive.
I figure i'll just head down to the junkyard today and get a new pedal assembly so I don't have any particular question, I'm just curious if this has ever happened to anyone else. With all the preventative maintenance and upkeep we do on our volvos, this was something that just came out of nowhere but made for a potentially dangerous situation. So, am I the only one unlucky enough to experience this, maybe I have a particularly heavy foot.
