86 740 in-tank pump LH 700

Possible or the little filtering "sock" which fits on the end could be totally plugged. Though I think the reason the 240's had the problem was the hose was a much smaller "accordian" style which was prone to splitting. The 700/900's have a foot long piece of regular fuel hose(not accordian'd). My bet is its dead. Does the fuel pump under the drivers side make significant noise? When the primer pump is working in the tank you can hardly hear the main. The primer pump failing puts undue stress on the main and will hasten its demise.
