Okay, about two years ago I bought a 1995 940 with 68,000 miles on the odometer and some dealer paperwork showing a 50,000 maintenance service having been done. (seems low right? - I hope there was no rollback) I changed fluids and since it ran fine I didn't do any "tune up" work. Now, 8,000 miles later I detect just a bit of difficulty starting and maybe a power loss (but maybe not). Now when I bought the car I was struck by a gritty gray "lunar dust" over every surface under the hood. The car, I believe, began life as a rental car in New York, had a small wreck, and then was bought by a dealer for resale at 30,000 miles. So I figured the grit was just a result of having never, ever been cleaned by anyone who cared to see individual parts under the hood. So I cleaned it up. Given all that, are there special areas that I should attend to as I begin to prepare the car for winter, when I'll need it to start reliably. Do folks now just put in new plugs or clean up the old? EGR valve? What about checking grounding? Is that done with a meter or should I just unbolt and clean up connections and re-bolt connections? I guess I'm looking for a "place to start" but I don't mind working through everything a bit at a time so that I'll be ready for winter. I would like to avoid doing jobs that don't really need to be done, though.
