ECU(s) ? Location 700

The new sensor made it run just as poorly as the old....immediately. Has to be wiring. Found the ECU. Its mounted straight above the the arm on the brake pedal. To the right though, not anywhere near the left side of the footwell.

Also looked at my Knock sens wiring. Found a connector that was beginning to be pushed back in one of the AMP plugs. I though YES this is prolly it. NOPE...still no advance.

Now we begin to test the wiring and tear the harness to pieces. I am thinking of replacing all of the connectors. Perhaps GM weather pak style. These seem to seal our dirt and grime better than the old style volvo.

Ive done things like this in other areas where the factory stuff is dust. I replaced the crappy RSR relays with bosch long ago when I first bought this car. Just re-tined the wires and soldered on push in female spade terminals. Then I installed bosch style connector bases that the female connectors snap into. Not a problem since. If there ever is a problem, the relays are $5 and can be bought ANYWHERE!

Valves looked really good for a car with this mileage. Just a tiny bit of pitting. Still had excellent margins. Guide clearnces were close enough. Lapped the old valves in, installed new seals, cushers etc. Head was skimmed just enough to get a good sealing surface. I was shocked at the condition. I've been in MANY engines over the years, I was amazed how little wear had occured. Don't think I have burnt valves...yet.

Like I said, too bad such a sound mechanical vehicle has so many electrical gremlins. Quite a shame. The rubber to seal these connectors is terrible and so is all of the tinning on the boards of the relays. Don't even get me started on the tail lights and their circuit boards! I'd like to slap someone for that design. I apologize if this offends anyone. I say most of this in jest/frustration. All cars have their weak spots.

Back to Work!
