Transfer pump project: can't get the assembly out of the tank 200

Hi all,

I'm trying to change the transfer pump in my '90 240 wagon. I bought a bung nut tool, and that part went smoothly.

However, I can't see any way that the entire assembly can come through the opening in the tank. The filter sock and the float ball are right next to each other.

Bentley says nothing about any dis-assembly. Am I supposed to separate the pump from the larger assembly and remove it separately?
