Solution enclosed 700 1989

Can somebody please tatoo "Check the basics first!" to the inside of my eyelids? I really need that...

Since the primary ignition seemed fine, the injectors were working, the knock sensor checked out, etc... I wondered if the problem might be a little closer to the actual combustion event. For expediency, I had left the spark plugs in the head when I R&R'ed the head gasket. What if I had banged an electrode during the head reinstall?

I hypothesised that plug 4 was darn close to one of the raised structures on the block than aligns the head. Pulled it and yes, it was bent to a gap of about 0.002". Re-gapped and re-installed, car is good as new!
