AC on 86 240 questions 200

Hello, I bought 1986 240 GL with not working AC. The plate with tubes is disconnected from compressor. I tried to jump the wires on the pressure switch in the drier but did not get it going. I plan to stick with R12. I got Volvo green AC manual but it covers up to 1984 and 1985 has different compressor.

So my questions:

1. Can I test if the compressor is still all right when the tubes disconnected?

2. I read that 1991 models came with bigger evaporator and electric fan on condensor. Is it possible to strip AC from 1991 car and stick it to 1986?

Thanks!
Serge
