Cheap plastic radiator blows up and overheats engine.....is the head warped??

Good situational awareness alway trumps good equipment so if your kid stays alert and has a good head on his shoulders, that will help more than a $1500 vest and plates.

I have seen the IBA that stopped an AK round (7.62 x 39mm) and it is not pretty but the guy made it with just a couple of broken ribs and bruise the size of Texas. The composite plate was in about 100 pieces.

The $400 concealable ones are OK for a 9mm or less...if they hit the tiny little plate. If the majority of the gunfire is assault rifle as you said, save the money and have your kid take a tactical driving course. That would be fun a in Volvo!
