Squeaking sound underneath driver's dash 900 1994

I have an annoying squeaking noise coming from under the dash driver's side. It's too loud to sound like coming from outside the cabin. It's sort of a springy squeaky sound.

I've had a look underneath. The only thing close I can suspect is the spring on the steering column but that is quite fixed with little play in it.

What can cause this noise?
