Seat Bracket Question 200

I am working to upgrade/save an 88 245. I had the front seats recovered and I am puzzled about the connections to the body. The drivers side has two small, thin metal pieces that look like they hold the carpet in place and then on top of those there are two, fairly heavy brackets in an L shape about 1" x 1/4". The passengers side did not have these.

Does anyone know if that's right and what the purpose of these drivers side seat brackets are for?

thanks,

Hawkeye
