Turbo fuel economy 200

I was shopping for a new engine for my 93 wagon. My plan was to replace my tired engine with a warped head with a low milage replacement. But they have this L block turbo engine with only 44000km on it that looks like it just came out of the factory. It came out of a write off. I have all of the other necessary bits for the conversion (I have thought about doing this for a long time). But these days I am trying to be as green as possible. How much worse is the gas mileage on the turbo engines. I know it will eat gas when I step on it, but what about when driving with a light foot?
