Clearly the front seats in my "new" 245 had problems. The sides were lumpy and I could feel the steel rods through the seat fabric.
I experimented removing the covers on a couple seats at the PnP and lucked out by finding a nearly pristine set of seatback foam. I got the foam for almost nothing and spent a couple hours this afternoon removing the upholstery from my own front seat backs.
I had never undertaken such a repair before and was pleasantly surprised at just how straightforward the process is.
The result is amazing! The seat backs are supportive, the wings now seem to wrap around my torso. I had no idea just how bad these old seats were until I changed the foam.
I *highly* recommend this repair to anyone willing to try it. Messing with those bull-rings and hooking the last high-tension spring was the only difficult part of the whole process. The seat backs now look factory-new.
Unfortunately, now that I've fixed the seat backs, I can feel just how bad the seat bottom is on the driver's side. The whole outboard edge is collapsed.
The removal of this part of the seat is not as obvious to me. With the 120s and 1800s the seat bottom is a pad that is held in place by snaps. The 240 appears different.
Has anyone documented how to replace the seat bottom? It seems less intuitive and I worry that I'll have to remove the entire seat to attempt this.
