After years of reading about Starter replacement and Trani replacement.. Everyone talks about the Top Starter bolt. No one talks about the Very top bolt of the bellhousing. That's the one I struggled with.
The Starter was no issue. 2' extention and a swivel Socket from under the car.. effortless. The Top Bellhousing bolt is another story. After failing to get it from under the car (drivers side) I jacked the back of the trani up to give myself some room between Engine and Firewall. I managed to get Box wrench onit to crack it loose after that it was all finger tips to get it out. I couldn't even grab it I had to let it drop out on the floor. I can't image getting my hand down there to get the Bolt in the hole and Start threading it.
After the Trani was down I can see that this bolt is dead center on the Bellhousing. Can you get to this easier from under the car but from the passenger side? I didn't try it. The trani and engine doesn't rock back far enough to get a line on that hole from underneath.
Also the FAQs doesn't mention rotating the trani? The Starter bulge hits the Tunnel. Reinstall: I guess I have to raise the trani at an angle, get the Trani Shaft into the Clutch then rotate it before it crashes into the Crank Positioning Sensor bracket. Even if I had a trani jack, I imagine it wouldn't help in this case of rotating teh trani. Any tricks you all can share? What are you doing next Saturday?
