Front crank cover seal 120-130

Well, as I continue my inspection of CA's car:

Is it common for the seal to start leaking in the timing cover behind the crank? AND, this does look fairly straight forward, right? I intend to leave the cover in place if it is just the seal. Any upgrades to the "felt" seal, like plastic?

The parts guys are going to love me :)
