Fuel pump stays on after car is shut off

greetings everyone. I just picked up an 89 740 wagon, non turbo automatic. the stock radio did not work so i put in a cheap sony cd player and somehow through this process (weather its related to the stereo install i dont know) the fuel pump stays on after i shut the car off... the first few times i reached under the car and unplugged a wire going to the car (it is the fuel pump under the drivers seat) but on another occasion i did not unplug it and when i came back later it was off.... i was thinking perhaps volvos have some sort of accumulator or something, but i doubt it, as i did not ever notice it before (granted i had only had the car a couple of days before all of this) does anyone on here that knows more about volvos have any idea???
thanks
Bill
