Front Struts 200

Seems the front struts are close to shot. At least that's my best guess. If you recall, I'm a vintage 120-series guy and I've never replaced struts before. Rumor has it that the 200-series struts are a PITA. The diagram in the IPD catalog *looks* relatively straighforward.

From what I can see the struts are a combo of the springs and shocks. I see shocks for sale, but I also see strut-inserts, which I assume are the same thing.
Prices seems to vary from $60 to $120 (for bilsteins) each.

So, has anyone written a guide to doing these? what can I expect, what should I avoid?

Any advice is appreciated.
