Paint Question 140-160

What type of paint did Volvo put on the 140 series? I have a 1969 144s whose roof I want to rattle-can just to get some coating on until I can start a full out restoration. It's weathered down to the original primer, so, I want to scuff it, primer, then color coat.

I talked with DupliColor about what black paint to use. There was a choice between enamel and Acrylic Lacquer.

The due advised using the lacquer, in their universal black p/n DS100 (I think it was), followed by a clear, p/n/ DS125

But I don't think that's right...didn't Volvo use enamel paint? Don't recall them using a clear, neither.

When I repainted a 1978 144s some many years ago, I remember using a Dupont Enamel.

Should I return this stuff for the enamel?
