Evidently I live in an area perfectly conducive to what grows on the interior of my stored 90 wagon and am looking to do a better job of getting rid of this yuk before winter sets in. A problem not helped by several years of really wet and humid conditions that now seem to last year long.
This wagon has been stored since it was purchased 3yrs ago and is always under a breathable cover in my garage. I occasionally take it out for some fresh air and exercise but haven't this past year and was bummed to see the mold has returned when I checked under the cover. The interior is black but what grows are patchy areas of gray and white that covers every material in the car from steering wheel to seat belts.. Was tempted to shoot a few pics but don't want to freak you guys out. Really disgusting stuff. Not as bad this year as last, but will still require a thorough cleaning with disinfectant.
A few things I've done and tried include scrubbing down and washing the interior with a solution of alcohol/water prior to winter. Bleach not recommended for this. Ran a small portable fan timed to run every other hour to circulate cabin air. Have been mindful of not opening up the garage during especially muggy days and conversely doing so on drier days to air out.
A few new things I'm considering include using a dissicant to absorb moisture, (but not sure what kind). Running a 60w bulb in the cabin who's heat would dissipate moisture and keep the fan running as well for circulation. Using moth balls??? For cleaning, maybe a different solution that can be tolerated on fabric but kills mold. I have a hot steam machine with nozzles that I would think would be perfect but may contribute to the problem unless thoroughly dried out before storage.
As you can see, I'm grasping here since I may be fighting a losing battle. Really should have done this during the summer and under a hot sun. Relocation is out of the question but any other advice will be welcome. thxx. z~
